Life School Red Oak Celebrated Students, Brought Closure to End of School Year

(RED OAK, TX) May 22, 2020 – At Life School Red Oak (LSRO) Elementary, teachers, staff, and families reconnected through a summer send-off drive-through parade on Friday, May 22.

Though the school year ended with an unexpected turn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LSRO school spirit was strong as staff adopted the social media trend of drive-through parades to celebrate their students’ resilience.

“Being away for so long was hard on everyone and the thought of this event was that it would be a fun way to see our students again and bring closure to the school year,” expressed Joy Shepherd, LSRO Principal.

Complying to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines, LSRO staff maintained social distancing protocols while over 100 vehicles circulated through the parade. Teachers lined the parking lot with decorated cars, noisemakers, and smiling faces while their students showcased ‘thank you’ signs, tossed candy, and even sprayed their favorite educators with silly string.

“The staff was overall super excited about it,” Shepherd recalled the day. “The students that came seemed to love it! Some of them made two rounds because they loved it so much! It was good to see them.”

Looking Forward To 2020-2021

As the 2019-2020 school year came to a close, Shepherd thanked and encouraged her LSRO community by looking forward to the future when teachers and students can once again reunite in person.

“Students and families of Life School Red Oak, thank you for helping us have some fun and bringing the school year to a close. It was wonderful to get to see your smiling faces as you came through our Drive-Through Summer Send-Off. Have a great summer and we can’t wait to see you in August for the start of our 2020-2021 school year,” Shepherd concluded with a smile.
