Public Meeting To Discuss Proposed Widening Of FM 1387 in Midlothian

Midlothian is growing and with the growth comes congestion. In an effort to ease congestion and decrease accidents, TXDOT is holding a public meeting on August 30, to gather input on a project on the reconstruction and widening of FM 1387 from North Midlothian Parkway to FM 664 in Midlothian, TX.

The meeting will be an Open House format with no formal presentation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to present the planned improvements and to receive public comment on the proposed project. Representatives from TxDOT and project consultants will be available to answer questions about the proposed project

The improvements would include the expansion of the current 2-lane rural
roadway to a 6-lane urban roadway. The expansion would consist of one 12-foot wide travel lane, one 14-foot wide outside shared-use lane, 2-foot offsets and 5-feet sidewalks in both eastbound and west bound directions separated by a 16-foot wide raised median, The existing right-of-way (ROW) width varies with 80-90 feet nominal and will increase with the proposed project. The proposed project is anticipated to require approximately 52 acres of additional right-of-way to widen the roadway, based on this preliminary level of
design.

Local residents have expressed concern on social media about whether their homes are on the chopping block to create room for the new lanes.

Maps showing the proposed project’s location and the preliminary geometric design will be available for viewing at the public meeting. This information will also be on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the TxDOT Dallas District Office, 4777 E. Highway 80, Mesquite, TX 75150. Project information also will be available online at www.keepitmovingdallas.com under Upcoming Public Hearings/Meetings.
