Today, Costco announced that on Monday, May 4, 2020 customers will be required to wear masks while shopping in their stores. Reactions have ranged from customers canceling their memberships, to praise for the requirement.
Effective May 4:
Changes to Hours of Operation
- Most U.S. and Puerto Rico Costco locations and gas stations will return to regular operating hours.
- Special operating hours for members ages 60 and older, and for people with disabilities, will now be Monday through Friday, from 9 to 10 a.m. Local jurisdictions may have mandated different senior shopping hours. Please check with your local warehouse for any exceptions.
- Costco is still limiting entrance to 2 people per membership card

If I’m required to wear a mask at Costco, then I’m going to wear one that looks like this: pic.twitter.com/1qvTcreKif

#Costco I’m so disappointed you decided to go this direction. I will unfortunately be canceling my membership. I can’t support this. pic.twitter.com/vBACQLAfps

My wife took this #Costco picture today. It’s “Phantom of the Opera time!” Even though we’re healthy, there are others out there who are more vulnerable. We’re wearing our masks consistently in public to protect THEM. #courtesy #caring #facemasks #CoronaVirus #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/iThPVJOQSx

With COVID-19 impacting essential workers many stores have required their employees to wear masks while encouraging customers to wear them. But as coronavirus continues to spread and employees express concern about contact with customers, will mask requirements be the new norm? Who will help with enforcement?
What do you think? Team mask or will you cancel your membership?
